(05/07/2019) - The headache for Bay City drivers isn't over just yet.
As construction ends on one bridge - another begins.
Liberty Bridge was reopened was reopened on Saturday.
But Monday both directions of Veteran's Memorial Bridge closed -- as part of the $2.7 million investment in repairs to the M-25 Bridge.
"The project is expected to be done, the major work is expected to be done by mid-June,” said Brian Ulman, construction manager. “There will be some epoxy work that will that will take place towards the end of July that will be day time closures only."
Eastbound will be closed and detoured to M-13, and M-84.
Meanwhile westbound traffic will be detoured by southbound Washington and Salzburg Ave as well as M-13.
Work will include concrete deck patching, steel repairs and electrical and mechanical improvements.
MDOT says they are trying to get this Veteran's memorial bridge finished before next year’s big project with the reconstruction of Lafayette Bridge.
That way it will minimize any impact it may have on traffic when that plan gets underway.
Original plans were to close one direction of traffic at a time for traffic but Ulman said that plan changed.
"So this time we are trying to accommodate traffic and do apart with and after getting into the work we found that it's just not feasible and we have to close the bridge completely to finish the barring work," said Ulman.
The estimated completion date of the entire project is late August, and MDOT says their goal is to have traffic back open for the 4th of July weekend.
