(1/30/2019) - Thursday morning is expected to be just as cold as Wednesday, so schools around Mid-Michigan are canceling classes for the fourth day this week. More than 300 schools and organizations have canceled every day this week due to snowfall on Monday and Tuesday and dangerously cold temperatures on Wednesday. That trend likely will continue on Thursday. CLOSINGS: Click here to see the full list of school and organization closings. Michigan remained under a statewide State of Emergency imposed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday due to the brutally cold weather. The emergency declaration will continue at least through Thursday. State government offices were closed on Wednesday and will remain closed on Thursday. Several local government offices, businesses and organizations closed Wednesday due to the cold weather. Low temperatures on Wednesday morning reached -6 degrees with wind chills consistently hitting -30 degrees. The wind chill briefly dipped to -40 at times through the day on Wednesday. Wednesday's high temperature is expected to be around zero degrees, with much of the day remaining below zero. That would set a new record lowest high temperature for this date, breaking the record of 8 degrees. Thursday morning, temperatures should get to double digits below zero with the bitterly cold wind chill remaining around -25 to -35 most of the time. The high temperature is expected to get into the single digits above zero. Friday morning likely will remain bitterly cold, but the wind gusts driving down wind chills will subside. Some low-lying areas of Mid-Michigan still could reach double digits below zero again. A dramatic warm-up is coming this weekend, with highs in the 30s on Saturday and 40s on Sunday coupled with a rain-snow mix falling.
