
(1/30/2019) - Warming shelters are available for residents who need a place to escape the dangerously cold weather on Wednesday.
Call 211 for the shelter closest to you. Here is a list of places open to the public:
-- Caretel Inns of Linden at 202 S. Bridge St. will be open to the public until 8 p.m. Wednesday with Starbucks coffee and snacks. Anyone who needs transportation can call (810)-735-9400 to make arrangements.
-- Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities at 6700 Westside Saginaw Road in Bay City also will be open until 8 p.m. with free Starbucks and snacks.
-- Joy Tabernacle Church at 2505 N. Chevrolet Ave. is open to the public around the clock until 8 a.m. Thursday. A free dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Wednesday and a free breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday.
The doors will be locked at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Anyone in the church then will be required to spend the night.
-- River of Life Church at 4216 Belsay Road in Burton will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
-- The O-Town Cafe in Owosso will be open 24 hours a day as a warming shelter through Friday evening. No sleeping accommodations are available, though.
-- Immanuel Baptist Church in Corunna opened at 7 p.m. Tuesday and plans to remain open all day Wednesday with a place for anyone to sleep. Cots will be available, along with hot food and beverages.

-- The Salvation Army of Owosso is offering to find a hotel room for any homeless person in the community. Go to the Owosso Police Department to seek assistance.
-- In Shepherd, the West Midland Family Center at 4011 W. Isabella Road will be open 24 hours a day as a warming station until the cold weather subsides. Pets are allowed as long as they remain on a leash or in a crate.
