(1/30/2019) - While the snow surrounds the outside of Caretel Inns in Linden, it's warm and toasty on the inside
"Anyone in need, we're here," said General Manager Rodney Roberson.
After securing all of their guests, making sure they're staying safe and warm, he said his team knew they needed to extend their help to the greater community.
"All of the senior centers in the area that normally provide lunch and services to our local seniors, they're all closed today. And so, we thought, why not open up Caretel?" he explained.
That goes for their facilities in Brighton and Bay City, too.
"We're here anyways, we're cooking, we're serving and offering them a hot meal, a hot beverage, a hot cup of coffee and invite them in to stay warm and socialize," Roberson said.
A warm bowl of chili was on the menu Wednesday, along with a steaming cup of hot chocolate or coffee.
"We've got board games, we've got staff; you know, if you do have some kids because there's no school, and you need to bring a couple of kids with you, we've got the theater," he said.
If you can't find a ride, Roberson added they'll try to come pick you up. Just call 810-735-9500.
"Our doors will be open until 8 p.m. tonight, if there's someone that needs a hot meal, just a place to get warm, warm their hands, maybe dry their clothes, whatever the reason they can come in and we'll facilitate them, make them feel at home like we do our guests," he said.
Most importantly, Roberson said they don't want anyone to be cold or alone.
"I remember my Mom and Dad being shut in, I wish somebody would've done something like this for them," he said. "So, we're here. And, we serve the community, the community serves us. So that's our purpose."
