(02/11/2019) - The weather taking aim at our viewing area has people getting ready for yet another shot of snow and ice.
In the Great Lakes Bay region people have had enough. But for those whose livelihoods depend on keeping parking lots and driveways cleared, they're getting ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work this week.
"Didn't the ground hog say that winter was over? It's didn't happen," noted Laurie Everett of Bay City.
"I'm ready for Spring to come, admitted Josh Zieroff off Kochville Township.
"Not ready for it, I'm ready for it to be way over, yes I'm sick of it," said Saginaw resident Tonya Cece when asked if she was ready for the next winter system moving into our area.
50-tonnes of salt delivered on Saturday arrived not a moment too soon for Thomas Roy with Ultimate Lawn Pros:
"When we get an inch of snow we'll start calling people in and getting the troops ready, and the trucks ready, and the salt ready," Roy said.
Monday night he'll be sleeping with one eye open, waiting to make the call to get his 12 plow trucks on the road during the overnight hours:
"At the very beginning of the season I call it white gold --then I call it a real pain," he said.
While Roy's thankful he's able to keep his crews busy, the number of recent storms present challenges of their own:
"A lot of people lack sleep,' he noted, "and then we don't have time between break downs, if there's a break down, you gotta maintain your equipment, gotta make sure they're running properly."
And since not all of their work is done at night, Roy said there are things drivers can do to help them finish the job safely during the daylight hours:
"Be alert, and my drivers are alert, they have the mirrors and things like that and the lights, they're usually alert," Roy said,"but sometimes a car will sneak right in there and it's like bad news."
