(2/11/2019) - Schools in Mid-Michigan are closing for Tuesday in advance of a significant winter storm bringing snow and ice to the entire region. As of 7:30 p.m., several schools in Saginaw County canceled classes hours before the storm reached the area. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Saginaw, Sanilac, Tuscola and all counties to the north from 3 a.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Wednesday. Genesee, Gratiot, Lapeer and Shiawassee counties to the south are under a Winter Weather Advisory from midnight Monday night through 3 p.m. Wednesday. Precipitation will move over the area during the early morning hours Tuesday from south to north and start as all snow. For the southern parts of Mid-Michigan, the snow will change to rain and freezing rain, then back to snow during the day Tuesday. RELATED: See how much snow Mid-Michigan will get from the first of 2 systems this week Areas north of Saginaw Bay will receive about 8 to 10 inches of snow from early Tuesday through Wednesday evening. The Tri-Cities, Thumb and areas west of Saginaw Bay will see about 5 to 8 inches of snow with some rain and freezing rain mixed in. The Flint area and counties along I-69 to the south will see less snow -- about 3 to 5 inches total -- as more of the precipitation falls as rain and freezing rain.
