Back-to-back winter storms are taking aim at Mid-Michigan this week. The first storm will move through overnight Monday into Tuesday and last all the way into Wednesday morning. The forecast is tricky, and it’s important to pay attention to the order of events with this one. For Flint and the I-69 corridor, expect snow to start flying around 2-3am. As the storm continues to move northward we’ll also continue to move in some warmer air as it does so. This means around 6-7am we’ll transition over to freezing rain. As the storm moves even further north, we’ll transition that freezing rain into rain as temperatures warm into the upper 30s. Later in the evening as we get the backside of the storm moving in, we’ll transition back to snow. This will bring in more, though smaller, accumulations. Here’s where it’s important to realize that much of the 3-5” of snow that is expected will indeed melt as the storm progresses. It’ll fall early then melt off in the rain through the rest of the day. For the areas to the north, including the Tri-Cities, we’ll have much more snow and a very brief round of rain. This means snow totals will be higher and only a small amount of that will be melting. Expect 5 to 8 inches around the bay area with 8 to 10 inches expected anywhere north of M-55. Snow up north will be accumulated through the day Tuesday and into Wednesday. Snow slowly dies down Wednesday morning and into the afternoon. Our next storm system will move in Thursday night into Friday. However, details on that will become more clear once our first storm passes by. Stay tuned for updates!
