(2/5/2019) - Moderate ice accumulations are possible overnight Tuesday and through the day Wednesday. Pockets of freezing drizzle are likely through the day Tuesday, which will lead to some slick roads. However, the heavier rain and freezing rain will move in overnight and ice will accumulate quickly. Expect heavy rain to begin around midnight and last until around 9am for most spots. Expect nearly all of Mid-Michigan to have at least a glaze while the I-69 corridor could see more than one-quarter inch of ice accumulation. Temperatures will start in the upper 20s and only warm to right around the freezing mark by the late afternoon. Some of the ice could off if if temperatures reach 32 or 33 degrees. But, that’ll only be for the southern part of the region. Sporadic power outages are likely as some small tree limbs come down. This will not be a catastrophic ice storm, but it will be significant enough that travel and daily life will be difficult and impacted. A second round of freezing rain is expected to move in overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning as well. The great news on Thursday is that we’ll warm into the 40s in the afternoon, so ice will only be a morning problem.
