(3/18/2019) - Four days after a series of twisters destroyed buildings and uprooted lives the rebuilding continues.
The suffering goes well beyond what the eyes can see, but there is hope and the people of mid-Michigan are coming together to help feed that recovery.
In Vernon, that means making sure there's warm food on the table for everyone.
Loaves and Fishes has opened their doors to anyone that needs their help and the community is making sure the shelves are full.
“This is an emergency disaster and we want to be here,” Loaves and Fishes President Bill Marsh said.
Marsh recently stacked up against the shelves inside the food pantry in the back of Vernon United Methodist Church.
"There's a lot more and so we do have the food to be able to give out,” Marsh said.
They've been designated as the official drop off spot for food donations and Marsh has been overwhelmed by all the support.
"They are a giving community, so things have been well taken care of,” he said.
Marsh wants to get the word out that there is help for anyone that needs it.
"I try to say to them that the food has been donated out of people wanting to help. They need to realize that the community is coming together to help them,” Marsh said.
He's hoping many more will come forward too.
"We want to make sure that it goes to the tornado victims and used for what it was brought here for,” he said.
Marsh says they'll be open from 10 to 2 for the rest of the week even longer is the need is there.
He said they’re looking for non-perishable items to add onto the shelves.
