(2/27/2019) - Road crews and motorists had their hands full on Wednesday while snowfall made roads slippery.
The eastbound lanes of I-69 were blocked at Belsay Road in Burton after a multiple vehicle crash around 11:35 a.m. At least six vehicles, including a semi truck, crashed and some were in the ditch.
Police could not immediately comment on whether anyone was seriously injured.
Traffic was being diverted off the freeway onto Belsay Road. Traffic could detour around the scene on Lapeer Road and re-enter the freeway at Irish Road.
The Genesee County 911 Communications Center reported about 15 active crash scenes at noon.
Farther north, the southbound lanes of U.S. 127 near M-55 were closed in Roscommon County after a semi truck rolled into the ditch. Police said the freeway would remain closed for a while so crews could clean up.
Michigan State Police troopers say the driver of the semi truck was not injured.
A steady stream of crashes were reported all over Mid-Michigan during the morning commute. Snow started falling Tuesday evening and continued overnight and through Wednesday morning.
Snow plows in most Mid-Michigan counties were on the roads around midday. Police and road crews are advising motorists to plan extra time to reach their destination Wednesday.
