(2/22/2019) - The U.S. Coast Guard and Hampton Township fire responders helped rescue a snowmobiler from Saginaw Bay who rode into open water late Thursday.
The victim had been out ice fishing and was reported missing around 10:15 p.m. when he failed to return on time.
The Hampton Township Department of Public Safety responded to the Finn Road boat launch to begin investigating. Officers found the fisherman's vehicle parked there with nobody else around.
The U.S. Coast Guard was called to assist with the search immediately and began looking for the fisherman on the water north of the boat launch.
Officers on shore heard screams for help coming from an area northwest of the boat launch and directed the Coast Guard team in that direction.
The Coast Guard crew located the fisherman and transported him back to a waiting ambulance at the Finn Road boat launch. He was treated and released at the scene.
