(1/29/2019) - Garbage pickup for much of Mid-Michigan is being halted Wednesday due to extremely cold temperatures.
The Mid Michigan Waste Authority will not pick up trash or recycling on Wednesday in the Saginaw County communities of Bridgeport Township, Chapin Township, Frankenmuth, Frankenmuth Township, Saginaw, Spaulding Township and Tittabawassee Township.
Residents in those communities are asked to keep their refuse and avoid putting it out to the curb. A special pickup will not be scheduled, so they should put all trash and recycling out on their next regular pickup day next week.
Emterra also will not operate its routes in Grand Blanc Township on Wednesday. The company plans to run its normal Wednesday routes on Thursday or whenever officials decide the weather is safe for employees again.
In Bay City, garbage trucks will only handle the blue bins that can be picked up without the drivers leaving the trucks. No recycling or loose bags of trash will be collected.
Republic Services in the village of Holly also is canceling trash and recycling pickup. Residents should keep their refuse until their next regular pick up day next week.
Everyone else should check with their trash hauler before putting any out by the curb on Wednesday and Thursday.
