(01/27/2019) - It's a busy time of year for those who make their living helping drivers who find themselves in distress.
"With bad conditions, we got people running going up and down the highway pulling people out of ditches," Jacob Emerich said. He works for Roadrunner Towing & Service.
Weather conditions are expected to get much worse as a heavy snowfall sweeps through mid-Michigan this week. Emerich said it's the ice that worries people the most.
"It really doesn't matter, what your speed is, ice really doesn't care,"he said."Sometimes having better tires helps out a little bit here and there, but if you're going somewhere, leave early, be prepared, drive slow."
Emerich said when he is towing cars, he notices one main trend that all drivers are experience.
"They expect to turn and they hit some ice, they don't turn, they just keep going straight, so a lot of your entrance ramps, people are just going straight off the edge."
If you're on the highway trying to make it to your destination, be mindful of all flashing lights when driving in bad weather.
"When you see people on the side of the road, tow trucks, police ambulances, anything like that, please slow down move over."
